The Houston Roughnecks of the newly re-formed XFL professional football league have selected Kamalie Matthews in Wednesday's draft. Matthews, 6'3, 310 offensive lineman, was a key figure in the success of the Salina Liberty's back to back Northern Division Championships during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He earned All-CIF league honors in both of those seasons. Matthews played collegiately at Murray State.
Training camp for XFL teams begins in November, while games are slated to begin in February 2020.
The Salina Liberty coaching staff and owners are sorry to see Kamalie leave, but we are excited for his opportunity.
